Taken from the Editorial Freelancer’s Association page: “A developmental editor may instead provide a manuscript evaluation, which is an overall critique of the content that focuses more on describing the problems than on proposing solutions for them.”
You may need a manuscript evaluation if you’ve just finished your first draft (woo-hoo, that’s amazing!) and you aren’t quite sure where to go from there. You don’t want to commit too much time or money to a full, in-depth, and potentially overwhelming developmental edit, but you still need to know the basics: how is your concept? Does the structure make sense? What about the timeline? Is your writing clear? A simple manuscript evaluation will answer all these questions and more.
So many steps…I know! This entire process can be confusing and even overwhelming, but don’t worry, I’m here to help. If you still aren’t sure where your manuscript stands, get in contact with me and we’ll figure it out together. I will never let you pay for a service you don’t need.
